Christmas is perhaps the most joyous holiday of the year. I love it. But after the holiday, I also know that someone will call my office because he or she got hurt – seriously hurt.
Here are 3 simple things I have learned over my years of practicing law. They can hopefully prevent a serious injury from happening to you.
First, Drive Safely
We may not be driving as far as we have in the past, but even going a little distance, here in the CSRA, can result in major injuries. Most wrecks occur within two miles of home.
Just be smart. Don’t speed, keep a safe driving distance, and, please, don’t drink and drive. Perhaps the easiest thing you can do to protect yourself and your family is to have a non-drinking designated driver. Trust me; you can seriously hurt yourself and some innocent people. I have seen it all too often.
Second, Wear a Mask
Don’t get sick or make someone else sick now that a vaccine is just around the corner. My guess is this will be the last Christmas you will have to wear a mask. So, is it really asking so much? Plus, it will be a Christmas story you can tell years from now.
Third, Products Can Be Dangerous So Take Extra Care
New Christmas presents can hurt you. I may be especially sensitive to bad products because of having the Burn Centers at Doctors Hospital here in Augusta. One example that comes to mind, a Georgia man burned by an exploding pressure cooker; it was awful. Plus, it seems every year there is someone flown in who was burned trying to fry a turkey. Read the instructions with any new product and take your time.
I want to wish you and your family a safe and joyous Christmas. As Tiny Tim says in A Christmas Carol, “God bless us, everyone.”
