To get an injured person money, it is often not a situation of “what is fair,” but rather “who can fight the longest.”
One of the tricks that big multi-national companies use to NOT pay for their mistakes is to prolong the court case. If they might have to pay out 100 million dollars, they will gladly pay a team of lawyers a few million to stop it. No individual personal injury lawyer has the time and finances to fight a batch of maybe 50 to 100 corporate lawyers for very long.
The solution is for the injury lawyers to band together and become just as strong.
This combining of resources is happening in many of the class action lawsuits you hear about – Round-up, Baby Powder, Ear Plugs, and Boy Scouts.
The question is, what do you do if you are one of those injured?
My advice — don’t get lost in the crowd of an 800 number you see in a commercial or read online.
Here is what most people don’t know. You can go to a local attorney who will represent you, and it will not cost you a dime more. Plus, most of these cases are done on a contingency basis, so there are no upfront costs to you, and the lawyer fees are taken out of what is won.
The major benefit of a local attorney is that he or she can focus on your specific case. Even if the major fight is in some other state, you will have a person here at home to speak with and to watch that you get a fair settlement.
That is why we are starting a class action division here at the Hawk Law Group. We want to see that people in the CSRA are taken care of properly.
There is another benefit to class action cases. Small claims can be resolved easier, and you can keep more money in your pocket. If the damage is minor and the payout is a few hundred dollars, you would never be able to afford to go it alone.
Remember, it does not cost you any more money to have a local attorney involved.
